Jenipher from Jenipher's Coffi visits SUSSED as part of 30 years of Fairtrade
During this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, Jenipher Sambazi coffee producer, of Jenipher’s Coffi visited SUSSED twice. Jenipher explained the situation and difficulties in Uganda both after meeting beach clean volunteers and in front of a larger audience on Friday evening organised with Porthcawl Chamber of Trade.
Porthcawl celebrates thirty years of Fairtrade
Margaret Minhinnick for Sustainable Wales discussed Fairtrade from the perspective of someone who has been campaiging from the very start, and showed a film Coffi & Climate made by Sustainable Wales (see below). A new film celebrating fairtrade over the years; produced by the Coop was introduced by Rob Sperduty, Manager of the Porthcawl Coop store. Mayor of Porthcawl, Cllr Jeff Perren introduced Jenipher after speaking on the importance of fully understanding the wider benefits of fairtrade. Jenipher explained the process and struggles of coffee farming and answered questions from an engaged audience.
Jenipher is always welcome at SUSSED and also appears in the Coffi & Climate short film which highlights the impact of climate change on both Ugandan and Welsh communities, economies and people’s lives.
Elen Jones (co founder of Jenipher’s Coffi) made great coffee based fairtrade cocktails and thanks to Margaret and all the volunteers for providing more cocktails and delicious home made goodies (fairtrade ingredients of course) for all the guests.
